Youre Gonna Cry

Written and Performed by Paul S. Flores

Directed by Brian Freeman

Remounted and directed by Eric Reid (2016)

YOU’RE GONNA CRY is a heartbreaking story chronicling the human cost of gentrification.

By taking us back to the 90s, Flores captures the abrupt demographic changes seen throughout The Mission District of San Francisco brought on by the dot-com boom and bust, the real estate bubble, constant immigration and forced evictions.

With You’re Gonna Cry, Flores brings a critical perspective combined with raw realism by portraying a kaleidoscope of offbeat vibrant characters—techies looking to remodel the place, the Latino bohemians wandering the bars and cafes, the locals and immigrants with a stake in the heart of San Francisco’s oldest neighborhood, and even a gangster puppet show to illuminate a historic moment when the city’s facade and cultural landscape changed.

For You’re Gonna Cry, The San Francisco Weekly named Flores the “2011 Best Politically Active Hip-Hop Performance Artist.”

Running Time: 75 minutes with no intermission

By Nancy Lopez: "You're so politically correct that you're oppressive!" says one of the many characters Paul Flores, a self-proclaimed Mission District poet, portrays in his solo show "You're Gonna Cry." Don't worry, you'll laugh, too.
